Bow on entering and leaving the Dojo.
Address any teaching instructor as Sensei whilst in the Dojo
and any senior grade as Sempai.
Oss
is a sign of respect and is used generally in karate, especially in the following
situations: - upon receiving any advice
or command from the instructor
- when bowing
at the start and finish of class
- when bowing to
your partner in kumite
- In any other appropriate
situation, for instance during grading or
competitions.
Train at your designated lesson. Higher grades can attend lower grade sessions
but lower grades cannot attend a higher grade session.
No one joins leaves the class without first obtaining permission from the
instructor.
Any member arriving late must take up a kneeling position at the back of
the Dojo and wait permission from the instructor before joining the class at the
back. On
receiving permission, bow and then join the class.
Finger and toenails must be kept clean and short.
Gis must be clean and in god condition.
Watches and jewellery (rings, bracelets, neck chains, etc) must not be
worn during training. If you cannot get a ring off, then tape must be wrapped
around it. |
Members must not smoke, swear, chew, spit or commit any other act likely
to offend the etiquette of the Dojo.
You must keep quiet at all times in the Dojo (both during warming up and
the lesson).
Do not interrupt the lesson unless the instructor asks you a question.
At the beginning of the lesson, the most senior grades line up at the front
right hand side of the Dojo.
At the end of the lesson, kneel and at the instructor MOKUSO
shut your eyes and breathe deeply.
Recite loudly the Dojo code after the senior grades instructions.
On the instructionsSHOMEN NI REI, bow silently.
On the instruction SENSEI NI REI, bow and sayOSS.
Students are not allowed to leave the Dojo before the instructor.
Always line up in straight lines, as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Senior grades must help juniors to respect and comply with the Dojo etiquette.
Senior grades must help junior grades with their karate before, during
and after lesson as Sensei cannot monitor everybody all the time.
Overall courtesy and understanding of karate must be applied at all times.
Karate
students must practice hard and to the best of their ability. |
